Delta of Venus
Anaïs Nin
Fifteen stories Nin wrote in the 1940s for a private collector paying a dollar a page, published after her death in 1977. Widely treated as the founding text of modern literary erotica written by a woman. The prose is the reason to read it; the contents are uneven and, in places, ugly.
Why we have this one
*Make sure you read the Preface for context of why this writing is thought provoking.
What is in this book
Requires extensive content warnings as it contains graphic depictions of severe sexual taboos and violence. Several stories contain incest and the sexual abuse of children. Not a book to recommend without saying so first.
We keep this one because it matters, not because we would press it on anybody. Borrow it if you want it — and do ask us about it first if you are unsure.
This one is on the shelf. Reserve it and we will bring it to the next event.
